The 2012 Cox Plate will be the 90^th anniversary of the legendary race that has produced multiple champions since its inception in 1922. The Group 1 W.S. Cox Plate is held at Moonee Valley Racecourse each year and is worth $3 million in prize money. Run by the Moonee Valley Racing Club, the race is named after the club’s original founder, William Samuel Cox. Run under weight-for-age conditions, the Cox Plate is the richest race of its nature in the world.
